St. Augustine Foundation Center for Historic Research (SAFCHR) is a committee of St. Augustine Foundation. Formerly known as Historic St. Augustine Research Institute (HSARI), SAFCHR handles the Speaker Series, Proctor Award, and provides recommendations for grants. It is comprised of the committee's board and associate members.

HISTORY
2000: Historic St. Augustine Research Institute, Inc. (HSARI), is established as a 501(c)(3) organization to "encourage, coordinate and disseminate active academic research related to the history, archaeology and historical architecture of St. Augustine, Florida, and to apply this research in support of historic preservation and general education in the city." A joint partnership between Flagler College and University of Florida, the Board of Directors is comprised of three members appointed by the Flagler College president, three members appointed by the University of Florida president, and one member appointed by St. Augustine Foundation, who provides funding for HSARI's operations. HSARI also establishes non-voting members, or "Research Associates," who support HSARI's pricipal goals and objectives.
2000-2025: HSARI supports its mission through the creation of the Speaker Series, which are free and open to the public. The William J. Proctor Award is created to honor HSARI's founding member by awarding authors focusing on St. Augustine's history.
2025: HSARI is dissolved and its functions are taken over by St. Augustine Foundation. St. Augustine Foundation Center for Historic Research (SAFCHR) is created to manage Associate Members, the Speaker Series, and Proctor Award. It also makes grant recommendations and its chair is an ex-officio member of St. Augustine Foundation's Board of Directors.
