
St. Augustine Foundation Center for Historic Research (SAFCHR) oversees the annual William L. Proctor Award for a published book or monograph representing outstanding research and writing on St. Augustine and contributing to scholarship on its history, archaeology, or historic architecture. Submissions are open to peer-reviewed, academic, and scholarly works, including theses and dissertations, that were published or produced in the year prior to the award. SAFCHR will award the William L. Proctor Award in the amount of $1000 or such other smaller prizes in the discretion of the research committee.
William L. Proctor served as President (1971-2001) and Chancellor (2001-2020) of Flagler College, and has served as a member of the state of Florida State Board of Education and Florida House of Representatives. Dr. Proctor was also a founding member of Historic St. Augustine Research Institute in 2000.
